What we deliberately do not do

We never publish a precise location. Every event is attached to a city, and only that city's centre point appears on the map — there is no finer coordinate anywhere in what we publish. Before anything is published, we strip GPS coordinates, device serial numbers and all other metadata except a short list: capture date, exposure settings, the technical data needed to display an image correctly (orientation, colour profile), camera model, editing software, and the author's credit and copyright notice if the file carries them. If a contributor wants to stay anonymous, the camera model, software and credit go too. This is how the software is built, not a promise about how we behave.

We show no advertising, use no cross-site tracking, and sell nothing to anyone.

If you only read the site

We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies, does not fingerprint your browser and cannot follow you to other sites.

Our servers keep short-lived logs containing your IP address, used to keep the site up and to stop abuse. If something breaks, an error report goes to Sentry with your IP address removed and any email address masked.

If you have an account

We hold your name, email address, a hash of your password (never the password itself) and a record of your sessions. You gave us these in order to have an account, and you can ask us to delete them.

Material you submit

Photographs, videos, and the description of the event they document. We keep these for as long as the archive exists, because preserving the record is the point of it.

Where the data is kept

Servers in Germany; files and backups in Cloudflare's European storage. To make sure the archive survives, there are several more backup copies in separate storage, including offline ones.

Removing something

If you, a relative or someone close to you is in a photograph and you want it taken out of the archive, write to [email protected]. Tell us which picture it is and briefly who is in it — for example, you yourself or your relative.

We ask because otherwise anyone could demand the removal of other people's photographs in bulk. We are not asking for documents; a clear explanation is enough. Once we are sure the request is genuine, we remove the photograph from the site and let you know; backup copies age out when their retention period ends.

Your rights

You can ask what we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it. One email is enough. If you are in the EU, you may also complain to your national data protection authority.

Why we may lawfully do this

A rally is a public event. Ukrainian law presumes consent to being photographed openly at rallies and other public events (Civil Code of Ukraine, art. 307), and people who join a rally openly make their stance public themselves. We publish the photographs to document these rallies, and we remove any of them at the request of the person in it, their family or someone close to them. Only the archive team and contributors who upload material have accounts; we hold that data because the person asked for an account.
